7:43am: Last Sunday was a good day in CrazyRedLand. To begin with I fairly jumped out of bed that morning and skipped down the hall to set the table for lunch. (I recently taught my granddaughter how to skip, so I tend to skip a lot.) We had a huge crowd for lunch which is always fun, my mother behaved herself, and Cousin Thing left early. (Ok... this is a hard one to explain.. Cousin Thing is my Beloved's ex-wife's sister's son and absolutely no relation to me whatsoever so how, HOW (!?) I ended up with that particular branch of the family hangin' around is beyond me, but here at CrazyRedLand we are the "Island of Misfit Toys"; our motto is "Give us your tired, your poor, your socially disenfranchised yearning to have a social life". (However, CrazyRed should really rethink the motto and amend it to read "socially disenfranchised but not so incredi-fucking BORING" since Cousin Thing has got to be the most yawningly boring individual on the face of the planet and the worst possible guest since he is always the first to arrive and the last to leave). But, I digress.

What is the reason for all this skipping and jumping? Grandchild number three is on the way. That's right! I am expecting my third grandchild in late January, 2009, (ok, I am not actually having the baby, but I am expecting it to arrive nonetheless.) I can't wait! Another grandchild for me to teach the important things in life. Such as spending the whole day being opera singers, ("I'm not scweaming, Daddy, I'm singing opwa just like Gwanny".) Or hugging trees on our walks with the dogs ("That's right baby, the tree will grow much stronger if you hug it. Go run real fast and hug that tree waaayyyy over there.... no, keep going, not that tree, the one waaaaaayyyyyyy, waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy, WAAAAAYYYYYYY over there.) On my last trip to NYC, I taught my other granddaughter how to do a high kick ala the Rockettes. We high-kicked for two long blocks pausing only at the crosswalks until we were forced to stop. (It was a side street with little or no pedestrian traffic, so I don't know why her parents were acting all embarrassed.)

Another grandchild to show the whimsy and the wonder of it all. To teach about the fairies and the fireflies and living in your imagination. I have decided that that is my function as Granny to this new generation of little Crazies. Soon enough their uptight parents will warp their little minds with test scores, class rankings, and all that other grown-up bullshit.... and then all they will have left of the world of wonder are the memories of the times they spent in CrazyRedLand and the day that Granny taught them how to high-kick down the streets of New York.

So to bring everyone up to speed...
